I’m done!

It’s been an interesting journey with lots of frustration, not knowing where to take things, figuring out chords and melodies, making it interesting enough and so on. It’s not perfect, but that was part of the plan. I wanted something a little more raw and old school. Usually i favor more of a”polished” production style (TOTO/Steely Dan-ish) and i had the urge to sweeten things, brighten this, compress that, but NOT THIS TIME. I think i achieved that somewhat. i listened to certain artists to get ideas, like Bill Withers, D’Angelo, Bernhoft. This also marks my one year on this blog, if you remember, my first post was last year’s Christmas project

So, i hope you all enjoy and comment if you like

Yesterday was the last day of recording, everything is done and now comes that glorious last part of the process which is mixing! hopefully I’ll get it done today.

And so, as the sun shines through my bedroom window on this cloudless winter day

let mixing commence!!

Some nice people came and recorded some fine brass parts last week. It was my first time recording and miking brass, so i just kinda put up a mike and hoped for the best. and thankfully, the tracks sound good! i was relieved to take away those awful midi-patches and replace with the real deal. success!!

Mr Bassman came ’round the next day to lay down some bottom end, got most of it done too. the last day of recording is next Monday (10 Dec), in which the remaining vox and bass will be tackled. It’s strange how plans shift and evolve. I wrote earlier that i either wanted to have a “band” sort of lineup, same people singing and playing or go full out with different vocalists and so on. In the end i ended up having just one vocalist, a vocalist who i firstly brought along as a “co-arranger” or a fresh pair of ears if you will. I never considered him singing at all, but he has done a great job thus far! So, all that is left is vocals on two more songs and some fretless bass.

Then mixing and releasing!

As for video, i have filmed a great deal, but it will most likely be one long clip instead of many shorter ones. There will be something at least!
